Bleacher Seats From Indiana University Indiana University 17th Street Fieldhouse/Assembly Hall Bleacher Seats!

1960: This bleacher seat was installed in Indiana University's 17th Street Fieldhouse (aka the New Fieldhouse and now known as the Gladstein Fieldhouse). The Indiana Hoosiers opened the new IU Fieldhouse with an 80-53 victory over Indiana State on December 3, 1960. 1971: When Assembly Hall replaced the Fieldhouse, these bleacher boards were removed, flipped over, and installed at court level behind one of the goals in Assembly Hall Sections 2, 5, 6, or 9. Assembly Hall opened in October 1971 and the Hoosiers played their first-ever game there on December 1, 1971. (Bob Knight was announced as the Hoosiers next coach on March 27, 1971). 1995: The court level bleachers and the floor were replaced. The boards were later recovered from King School Equipment Co., Inc. of Avon, Indiana.

The boards are a full 1" thick quarter sawn clear fir and approximately 9 1/4" wide. They have been cut to a seat length of 18". The cut ends have been routed smooth. Many IU fans simply display the bleacher seats on a shelf or hang them on a wall. The benches are sequentially numbered and include a Certificate of Authenticity along with a Men's and a Women's Basketball Timeline for the period. Perhaps the only memorabilia piece available today from Indiana University's 17th Street Fieldhouse and most certainly the only piece available anywhere which also has significant history in Assembly Hall! These bleacher seats were present for THIRTY FIVE years of IU basketball history! We don't know of any single IU Basketball memorabilia piece that includes this entire time span. Branch McCracken, Lou Watson, and Bobby Knight coached the Hoosiers to some great team victories.
